Florida State Men’s Tennis Sweeps By UNC-Asheville, 7-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The 48th ranked Florida State men’s tennis team
won their third straight home match and improved their record to 4-1 on the
2000 dual match season. The Seminoles did not drop a set on their way to a
7-0 sweep of UNC-Asheville Saturday afternoon.

Senior Mike Ingham defeated Zach Malina 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles
to reach career victory number 75. Ingham’s win improved his overall record
to a mark of 8-6. Three Seminoles won their third straight match of the
season Saturday. Junior Xavier Luscan extended his winning streak by
defeating Drew Herman in No. 1 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Luscan is
now 4-1 in dual match play. Chad Mooney achieved his third straight win
against freshman Mike Leffke 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles and raised his
record to 3-1 for the dual match season. In No. 4 singles, Noah Schnell
defeated Junior Jakob Jez in two sets 6-1, 6-1. Schnell’s streak has
improved his record to 3-2 after getting off to a slow start.

Sophomore Jeff Scarella and freshman Joe Bassett completed the
singles sweep. Scarella defeated freshman Stephen Poulos 6-4, 6-0 in No. 5
singles and improved his record to 10-6 overall. Bassett broke a three game
losing streak by defeating junior John Rockwell in No. 6 singles 7-6 (1),

In doubles play, Florida State only dropped three games on their
way to three straight wins. Ingham/Scarella defeated Malina/Poulos 8-0 in
the No. 1 spot. Schnell/Travis also won 8-0 against Jez/Leffke in the No. 2
slot. Mooney/Luscan rounded out the match with an 8-3 win against

The Seminoles will complete the doubleheader today against the
University of Jacksonville. The match will start at 2:00 pm and will take
place at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the Florida State campus.
