TALLAHASSEE, FL.- The Florida State men’s tennis team increased their winning streak today to three with their win over Brown University 4-3, while improving their spring season record to 9-8.
Florida State took the first point of the match by winning all three of the doubles matches. Xavier Luscan and Bartosz Koldej teamed together to take an impressive 8-6 win at the No. 1 position over the Bears Jamie Cerretani and Nick Malone. At the No. 3 position the tandem of Alex Herrera and Jeff Scarella improved their numbers to 6-0 in dual match play taking the win over Jonathan Argo and Ben Brier of the Bears.
In singles competition the men needed to make each match count. The first two singles matches to finish came in as wins for the Bears putting Brown University on top 2-1. Luscan stepped it up a notch at the No. 1 position defeating Chris Wolfe 6-2, 6-2 tying the two teams at 2-2. The next Seminole to finish fell to the Bears putting Brown back on top 3-2. Koldej, who played at the No. 4 position for the Noles finished next and came in with a win over Alex Walden 7-6, 6-3, once again tying the two teams at three all. Chad Mooney was the fifth member of the Seminole tribe to finish, however he came up short, falling to Ben Brier 6-3, 7-5. The game would then come down to Romain Jurd who was playing at the No. 3 position for the Seminoles. Jurd lost the first set to Cerretani, but came back to win the second set to take the match to the third and decisive set. Jurd came out playing hard and defeated Brown’s Cerretani 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The men’s team will now prepare to travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. where they will face North Carolina, Saturday, March 31st at 1:00 p.m.
