SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -Freshman Chris Singleton was held out of Florida State’s starting lineup for the first time Sunday, and he responded with a season-high 18 points to help the Seminoles beat Western Kentucky 82-69 in the Orange Bowl Classic.

Toney Douglas scored 27 points for Florida State, which trailed by 5 points in the second half before breaking the game open with a 20-3 run.

The Seminoles (12-2), coming off a loss to Pittsburgh a week earlier, remained unbeaten in their seven meetings against Western Kentucky. This is the earliest the Seminoles have ever reached a dozen victories.

The Hilltoppers (7-4) have never beaten Florida State in seven tries. As the game slipped away, coach Ken McDonald received two technical fouls and was ejected with 4:29 left.

Florida was to play Winthrop in the one-day event’s other game.
