Florida State Places Sixth At Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Tigh VanLeeuwen of Alabama Birmingham won a one-hole playoff to claim the individual title and Georgia State won the team championship at the 35th annual Seminole Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Golden Eagle Country Club.


VanLeeuwen defeated Charleston’s Kellen Altman in a one-hole playoff on the 18th hole to claim medalist honors. The pair finished tied after 56-holes with identical 214 totals. VanLeeuwen then won a playoff on the 10th hole as he birdied the playoff hole while Altman pared the hole. In winning his first collegiate tournament, he fired a final round 72 and then defeated Altman in the one round playoff. The Australia native’s performance helped lead the Blazers to a fourth-place finish in the 12-team final standings.


Georgia State, which took the tam lead during the second round, won the team title by five strokes over UCF. The Panther golf team fired 293 in the final round event to win its first tournament of the year and first since the 2001 Trans America Athletic Conference Championship.


Georgia State was paced by Kasper Jorgensen and Jonathan Fricke who finished in a tied for third place in the individual standings. Ty Harris finished in a tie for eighth to help the Panthers to the team victory. Georgia State was the only team in the field to have three players finish in the top 10 of the individual standings. UCF, which finished in second place, had two individuals finish in the top-10, finished in second in the team standings.


Florida State, led by freshman Bradley Ruch, finished in sixth place in the team standings. Ruch carded a final round 73 and finished in 11th place in the individual standings with a 22 total for the three round event. His 11th place finished marks the highest of his career. Seminole junior Rusty Mosley finished in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings as he also carded a final round 73.


Florida State continues its spring season as it plays at the Cleveland Golf Collegiate at Aiken, S.C. March 15-16.
