TALLHASSEE, Fla. – With the excitement of the 2009 season beginning in less than two weeks, Florida State received the news today they will kick off the new season ranked at No. 20 in the nation.
“We are pleased to see our ranking has remained among the top 20 teams in the nation,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “However, our goals far exceed No. 20.”
“The spring season is just beginning, and there is a lot of work ahead of us on many fronts,” said Hyde. “We will continue to build on the success of the last few years and stay focused on working our way up in the numbers one day at a time.”
Junior’s Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) and Jessica Sucupira (Whitehouse Texas) and sophomore’s Bonny Davidson (Johannesburg, South Africa), Rybakova and Suess all ranked among the South Region singles and doubles’ players as well. In the singles’ rankings, Rybakova was once again the highest ranked Seminole at No. 10 with No. 28 Macfarlane and No. 30 Suess earning spots on the list also. Sucupira and Davidson represented Florida State in the doubles’ team ranking at No. 14.
“The rankings that matter most come in May, but we are still pleased to continue being among the nation’s best programs,” said Hyde.
