TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 33 Florida State men’s tennis team takes on No. 24 South Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The two teams square off on the campus of the University of Florida at the Ring Tennis Complex.
“It’s been a couple of weeks since we last played,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We’re looking forward to getting back to action. We face a familiar foe in USF having battled this year in a 4-3 match and expect another tough match. We look forward to getting started with the NCAA tournament.”
No. 15 Florida is hosting the regional and takes on No. 70 St. John’s at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The winners of both matches play Sunday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the final site at the University of Georgia.
In the beginning of March, the two teams squared off in a tight match with Florida State pulling away with a 4-3 win. Despite losing the doubles point, the Seminoles were able to get four singles wins. Senior Blake Davis, junior Cristian Gonzalez Mendez, sophomore Marco Nunez and freshman Grayson Goldin all won their matches.
Junior Dominic Cotrone is ranked No. 66 in singles while he and Davis are No. 81 in doubles. For South Florida, Roberto Cid is ranked No. 47 in singles while he and Sasha Gozun are No. 45 in doubles play.
