TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 28 Florida State men’s tennis team (9-1) takes on in-state rival No. 11 Florida (5-0) Saturday at noon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. This marks the 73rd meeting between the two teams.
“It’s such a huge match,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “Florida is a highly ranked team. It’s the biggest home match that we’ve had so far this season and it’s one of the matches we look forward to every year. When you have a big crowd, it just inspires you. You feel like you have the school behind you. We know Florida’s guys and they know us, so there are not going to be any surprises out there.”
For the match on Saturday, free pizza will be available and the first 20 fans will get a free t-shirt. Admission is free to all tennis matches.
Senior Anderson Reed is 9-0 on the season and has clinched five wins for the team. No. 107 Dominic Cotrone, a sophomore, is having an outstanding season with a 9-1 singles record. Freshman Michael Rinaldi is also undefeated with a 6-0 singles mark. No. 99 Benjamin Lock is 8-2 in singles.
The Seminoles have been playing outstanding doubles this season not losing a doubles point. Senior Jordan Kelly-Houston and Reed are 6-0 on the year while Cotrone and Rinaldi are 5-1. Lock and senior Andres Bucaro are ranked No. 27 in the nation and are 4-1 on the year.
With 71 all-time doubles wins, Bucaro is just three wins away from entering the top ten list at Florida State. Reed is just four wins away with 70 career doubles wins.
