Florida State Shuts Out Georgia

Oct. 1, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State soccer team shut out the
Georgia Bulldogs this afternoon 2-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The
Seminoles improve to 5-5 as they Bulldogs, who are ranked #5 in the
southeast region, drop to 7-3-1.

“This is a really big win for us,” Head Coach Patrick Baker
said. “Georgia had better possessions and lots of opportunities but we
did a good job of absorbing the pressure and making the plays happen.”

Freshman Kelly Robinson, in her first appearance of the season,
scored the Seminoles first goal off an indirect free kick from senior
Angela Bonaffino with 45 seconds left in the first half. Sophomore Maren
Vik Edvardsen scored the second goal off a cross from April Murphy in
the 72nd minute to give the Seminoles the 2-0 win. Goalkeeper Sarah
Crawford earned the shut out with seven saves.

“Kelly’s goal gave us a lift right before the break and sort of
took the wind out of the their (Georgia) sails,” Baker said. “I was
really proud of these girls tonight. They finally believed in themselves
after the coaching staff believing in them for so long.”

The Seminoles return to action on Sunday, October 3 as they host
South Alabama. The match will be live on the Sunshine Network beginning
at 3:30pm.
