TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Monte Cummings scored 19 points and Michael Joiner
added 17 to lift Florida State to a 76-68 win Saturday over North Carolina-Asheville.
UNC-Asheville trailed 70-68 with 51 seconds left, but Cummings hit four free
throws to clinch the win. Florida State led throughout the game, though the
Bulldogs pulled to within one point at four different times in the second half.
The Seminoles (5-9) struggled early in the second half, scoring only one
point in the first 5:33. But Joiner carried the team through a crucial stretch
in the middle of the half, scoring eight straight points.
The Seminoles outrebounded UNC-Asheville by a 40-23 margin, including
grabbing 20 offensive rebounds. The Bulldogs, however, outshot Florida State,
with the Seminoles hitting only 32 percent of their shots in the second half.
Allan Lovett led UNC-Asheville (6-7) with 16 points and four rebounds and
was the only Bulldog to score in double figures. Antwuan Dixon added 10 points
for Florida State.
