Florida State Soccer Drops Season Finale To Maryland

Oct. 31, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State soccer team dropped its
season finale to the Maryland Terrapins 1-0 this afternoon at the
Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU finishes the regular season at 9-9-1 (0-6-1
in the ACC) as the Terrapins improve to 9-8-1 (4-2-1 in the ACC).

“We had a great performance outside of the first 15 minutes,”
Head Coach Patrick Baker said. “We played great in the last 30 minutes
of the first half and the entire second half. We created some great
chances but the final piece just wasn’t there. You can dictate all the
shots and the game but if you don’t score, you aren’t going to win. It’s
as simple as that.”

Maryland’s Jackie Mynarski scored the lone goal of the game at
the 8:57 mark off an assist from Julie Nelson. The Seminoles outshot the
Terrapins 7-0 in the second half but were unable to score. Senior Angela
Bonaffino led the team with four shots. This game marked the final
regular season game for four seniors as Bonaffino, Leslie Del Rio, Gina
Iacovella and Jamie Gurtov took the field for the last time at the
Seminole Soccer Complex.

“I’m very proud of our seniors,” Baker said. “They have done a
good job this season leading this team. I’m pleased with the overall
performance of our team this season.”

Florida State heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. this week for the
Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. The Seminoles will take on the
North Carolina Tar Heels at 6:00pm on Thursday, November 4th.
