Florida State Soccer Drops Season Opener To Florida, 5-1
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After threatening storms and lightening suspended the
game with 1:03 left in the first half, the Florida State soccer team fell to
the Florida Gators 5-1 at the Pearcy Beard Track and Soccer Complex . The
Gators stand at 1-0 as the Seminoles drop to 0-1.

“The 5-1 score is deceiving,” Head Coach Patrick Baker said. “At 2-0 we
knew we had a chance and tried to change the momentum. We could have given
in at 5-0 but I have to give these girls a lot of credit for sticking with
the game plan and not giving up. We’ve made really good strides and created
the opportunities. All we have to do now is keep working hard to make sure
we execute those opportunities.”

Sarah Yohe scored first for the Gators in the first minute off an assist
from Danielle Murphy with Abby Wambach scoring in the eighth minute off an
assist from Karyn Hall. Andi Sellars started the second half with a goal at
the 67th minute mark with an assist from Keisha Ball. Wambach scored her
second goal of the game in the 73rd minute as Erica Schubert added a goal at
the 80 minute mark. April Murphy put the Seminoles on the board with a
20-yard shot in the 86th minute, which was also the first goal ever against
the Gators for the Seminoles.

Florida State returns home on Sunday for their home opener in the new
Seminole Soccer Complex. The Seminoles will take on the Miami Hurricanes at
2:00pm.
