What is the best part of playing softball?

I love that adrenaline rush you get when you play well. It is a hard game and that makes everyday a challenge. When you are able to succeed you really feel like you have accomplished something.

What was your favorite moment from your first season as a Seminole? first season as a Seminole?

Getting the start versus Cal in the NCAA Regionals. I got to catch for three innings as a freshman in an NCAA Regional versus a team from my home state.

What is your earliest softball memory?

I remember the first team I played on when I was 10. I remember the first practice and it was really cold. They put me at catcher because the coach said I could catch really well. That is the position I have played ever since. That’s how I became a catcher.

What is the best part of being a catcher and what is the hardest part? and what is the hardest part?

The best part of playing that position is that you have control over the whole game but that is also the hardest part. Trying to keep control of the game is hard.

What is the best advice concerning the game that you ever received?

When I was in travel ball, my coach told me that softball was an easy game. All you have to do is throw the ball and catch the ball and you will be successful.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received that had nothing to do with softball?

My dad always gives me great advice. He used to tell me that the best players are the ones who can respond to adversity. You have to be able to bounce back no matter how low or how bad things get.

What is the one thing you would like people to know about you?

I would want people to know that I am a nice person. I think the people who are around me know that. Do you think I am a nice person?

What do you do for fun?

I love to go to the movies. That is one of the things I really enjoy. I like to play with Legos too. They are fun.

When did your love for movies begin?

In 10th grade I used to go all the time and that was all I wanted to do. I used to want to be a producer or screenwriter. That is one of the reasons I am an English major because I get the chance to write. I still think about doing those things but I also would love to be a movie critic. I would get to watch all the movies I wanted and then tell everyone what I thought about them.

What are the ingredients for a good movie?

There are a lot of things but a good movie has to entertain and it must be realistic. A good movie reaches all types of audiences.

Put on your critic’s hat and give me your top movies?

These aren’t necessarily my favorite movies but I think they are good movies. American Beauty and A Beautiful Mind are two of the best movies I have seen recently. A Beautiful Mind was incredible and it just blew my mind. Narrowing it down to my top five favorite movies is tough but I think I can do it. Any top five list would probably have to include Goonies, Rushmore, 8 Seconds, Hi Fidelity and For Love of the Game. Oh, I forgot to put Prefontaine on my list. Am I allowed to add that one too?

Give me one movie you liked that you are embarrassed to admit you liked?

I am a little embarrassed to admit that I liked the cheerleader movie Bring It On. A lot of people thought it was so stupid but I liked it.

What is your bat song and why did you choose it?

I have always loved the number nine. I have nines everywhere. I have them on my shin guards and a necklace that I have never taken off since I got it. I wanted to find a song that had the number nine in it and my bat song has a phrase that says “Engine, engine number niner so that’s why I picked it.

Why do you like the number nine so much?

I think it is because of the movie “The Natural”. Robert Redford wore that number in the movie. I remember watching that movie and thinking that would be a cool number.

Do you prefer a night in or a night out?

Definitely a night in. I like to go out to see a movie but I donTMt like to get all dressed up to go out.

What is your favorite pig out food?

Macaroni and cheese. Oh wait, macaroni and cheese with Vienna sausages cut up in it. Have you ever had that? It is so good.

If you could compete in the Olympics, what sport would you choose besides softball?

That is a tough one. Probably curling, just kidding. I think I would choose speed skating. I’ve never even been ice-skating but I wanted to try. After I saw The Mighty Ducks I wanted to learn to skate and play hockey.

Who do you admire most and why?

I would say my parents. They have always been there to support me and they bring out the best in me. They taught me to do the best at everything I try. That is the hardest part about being in Florida. I am so far away from them.

What do you love about California?

The weather is the best. It never gets too hot or too cold. You get the chance to wear sweatshirts in the winter and go to the beach in the summer. You get all four seasons there. It is hard to think of another place where you can go snow skiing or surfing with in the same state.

What was the most unexpected thing about your first year of college?

I was surprised at how easily I adjusted. I was so close to my parents so I thought it was going to be really hard being so far away. It was easier to adjust to being on my own than I thought.

Who is your favorite athlete?

Steve Prefontaine. I loved the movie about his life. I used to watch it all the time. I have a big poster in my room of him.

What do you want to accomplish in your life?

I want to be happy first and foremost. I would like to be successful in whatever job I eventually find. Maybe as a movie critic or a magazine journalist.
