TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As Florida State prepares to host the 2009 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, the NFCA announced on Thursday, May 14, that two Seminoles earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region honors. Senior Kaleigh Rafter and sophomore Sarah Hamilton are the first Noles to receive the award for FSU since 2007.
Following a breakout season under first-year head coach Alameda, Rafter has been the glue for the Seminoles both on and off the field. In just one year in the Garnet and Gold, the Guelph, Ontario, native has left her mark in the Florida State Single Season Top 10 and helped lead the Noles to the title game at the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2006.
Rafter has started all 57 games behind the plate for the Noles and leads the squad with 11 home runs and 42 RBI and her 508 putouts this year rank her No. 1 on the FSU Single Season Top 10 list.
Leading the staff in the circle this season has been Hamilton who earned the ACC Pitcher of the Year award with an 8-1 record, 0.52 ERA, 105 strikeouts and just five earned runs given up on conference play. The Tallahassee native also picked up two saves and three shutouts against ACC opponents.
Overall, Hamilton enters the NCAA Regional with an impressive 0.84 ERA which ranks her fourth in the nation and she is currently seventh in strikeouts per seven innings with 283 total punch outs.
