TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 2009 Florida State softball season is right around the corner with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (EST) on Friday, February 6, against Iowa at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Seminoles finished the 2008 campaign 38-28 with an appearance at the NCAA Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and are projected to finish fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Poll.
Florida State is 26-4 all-time in season openers and last opened the year away from Tallahassee with a doubleheader at Georgia Southern on February 1, 2003. The Noles split the series with a 7-2 win in game one but dropped a 2-1 decision in game two.
Following game one against Iowa, FSU will face tournament host Texas at 6:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday and Stephen F. Austin at 12: 00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday. The tournament wraps up with a semi-final round on Saturday and the tournament games on Sunday, Feb. 8.
After heading west for the weekend, the Seminoles won’t have far to go as they take on cross-town rival Florida A&M at the Lady Rattlers Softball Park on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 6:00 p.m. The first home game for the Garnet and Gold will be Friday the 13th against Appalachian State on day one of the Sunshine Classic on JoAnne Graf Field.
