ATHENS, Ga. – The Florida State softball team split a doubleheader
with the Georgia Bulldogs this afternnon in Athens. The Lady Bulldogs
took the first game 5-0 but the Lady Seminoles rebounded to take the
second game, 6-0.
The Lady Bulldogs got the early lead, scoring three runs in the first
inning before Jen White struck out the last batter to end the inning.
Georgia would score two more runs and would only give up eight hits to
shut-out the Lady Seminoles. Christy Cerecedes went 2-2 from the plate
and Danielle Cox added two stolen bases. Jen White took the loss for
FSU, striking out three batters and allowing nine hits.
Cercedes started the scoring for the Lady Seminoles in game two,
driving in Cox. FSU broke the game wide open in the third inning,
scoring five runs off two Georgia errors and two hits. Corrie Williams
and Cercedes both had a sacrifice RBI in the inning as Becky Wallace and
Danielle Cox both had hits. Wallace added an RBI as did Tami Post, who
brought in Dana Bailey.
Cox was perfect from the plate, going 4-4 with one stolen base.
Cerecedes was 1-2 from the plate with two RBI’s and Andi Lyons added a
stolen base. Leslie Malerich improves to 9-7, giving up three hits and
striking out two batters.
Florida State inproves to 28-20-1 as UGA falls to 21-14. The Lady
Seminoles will return to action on Wednesday, April 7 as they head to
Gainesville for a double-header with the Florida Gators beginning at
