Florida State Splits Doubleheader with Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State softball team split a
doubleheader with the FAMU Rattlerettes tonight at the Seminole Softball
Complex on the FSU campus. Florida State won the first game 10-1 in five
innings but fell in the second game 8-3.

Jesse McGregor started the scoring for the Lady Seminoles with a
single to score Danielle Cox. Kimmy Carter added a single and then stole
home and Kelly Miller added a two run double to give FSU the 4-0 lead. The
Lady Seminoles added three more runs off RBI’s from McGregor, Carter and
Andi Lyons in the second inning and Teresa Edenfield hit her first career
homerun with a three run shot over the left field fence to give the Lady
Seminoles a 10-0 lead. FAMU scored their only run of the game with a ground
ball in the fifth inning but Florida State took the win 10-1 in five
innings. McGregor was perfect from the plate with two RBI’s and Cox added
two stolen bases. Miller, Carter and Lyons each went 2-3 and Edenfield was
2-3 with three RBI’s. Stacy Venable took the win, improving to 9-1,
striking out two batters and giving up four hits. The Lady Seminoles also hit double-digits for the 14th time
this season.

Florida A&M opened the second game scoring four runs in the first
inning off hits from Kim Browning, Tonya Minick and Tenyse Tasby and on a
wild pitch from Leslie Malerich. Florida State scored one run in the first
inning off a triple from Carter to score Cox. FSU would then score one run
in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Cox. The Rattlerettes scored
two more in the fifth inning off singles from Minick and Cherrace Rushton
and scored two in the sixth inning off two Seminole errors. Florida State
scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning off a single from
Christy Cerecedes but the FAMU Rattlerettes held on to win 8-3. Cerecedes
led the team going 3-4 with an RBI as Cox added an RBI and two stolen
bases. Cox and Dana Bailey both went 2-3 from the plate. Leslie Malerich
took the loss for the Lady Seminoles, striking out four batters and giving
up eight hits and six runs. Jennifer White had two strikeouts and gave up
two runs.

The Lady Seminoles stand at 31-25-1 on the season as the FAMU
Rattlerettes go to 25-27. FSU will return to action on Sunday, April 17 as
they host Florida International in a double header beginning at 1:00pm at
the Seminole Softball Complex.
