The 2012 NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional began with the first pitch thrown at 7:05 p.m. … Friday’s game marked the seventh postseason meeting between FSU and Stanford … it was also just the first meeting between the two schools in a Super Regional game.

Stanford Notes

The first run of the Tallahassee Super Regional was scored on an RBI single by Stephen Piscotty with one out in the top of the first inning … the Cardinal is now 15-2 this season when scoring in the first inning … Piscotty now has a team-leading 56 RBI this year … Brian Ragira’s three base hits give him a team-best 22 multiple-hit games this season … Ragira now has eight games in which he has recorded three base hits this season … Jake Stewart finished 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games … Stanford is now 12-7 in Super Regionals and has an overall post-season record of 137-68 in 31 appearances.

Florida State Notes

Justin Gonzalez’s hit-by-pitch in the fourth inning marked his 29th for his career, placing him in a tie for the 10th spot on FSU’s career list with former player Scott Zech (1994-97) … as a team, FSU had five HBP’s to reach 94 on the season, which is third on the single-season list … FSU’s seven-run inning in the fourth frame marks the 17th time this year the Seminoles have scored five runs or more in an inning … seniors James Ramsey and Sherman Johnson each made their 195th consecutive start in tonight’s contest … Stanford ace Mark Appel’s four innings pitched is his shortest outing of the season … Appel entered tonight’s contest pitching at least seven innings in 14 of his last 15 starts … Appel’s four walks allowed are his most this season while his five earned runs are his third-most allowed in 2012 … FSU’s victory now gives it a 14-0 record against non-conference schools outside the state of Florida this year … FSU’s 17 runs scored is just the second time Stanford has allowed double-digit runs this season … FSU drew 12 walks tonight to reach 358 on the season, moving it past New Mexico State for the national lead … Sherman Johnson’s two walks moved him past J.D. Drew for fifth on FSU’s single-season base-on-balls list with 176 … Devon Travis’ two home runs gave him a career-high six RBI … it was the first time a Seminole homered in consecutive at-bats since Rafael Lopez did so at N.C. State on May 13, 2011 … FSU has now had two players record six RBI this season, as Seth Miller also accomplished the feat on March 20 against Stetson … the Seminoles now have 12 Super Regional victories, which ties Stanford for the sixth-most among NCAA teams and the second-most among current 2012 Super Regional participants … in 36 postseason innings, FSU pitching has allowed runs in only four separate innings and more than one run in only one inning.
