During the week of March 3rd some of our student athletes participated in the 11th Annual Read Across America campaign, sponsored by the National Education Association, as they read to children at Apalachee Elementary School to help celebrate the joy of reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

During this week long event children were encourage to pick up a book and read. Tapiwa Marobela, Javi Garcia-Tunon, Everette Brown, Kandia Batchelor, & Javo Cruz were just a few who lent their voices to a few story-time classics such as Green Eggs and Ham and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

Read Across America Day in its 11th year is celebrated annually and kick’s off on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2 to help generate enthusiasm for reading nationwide and focuses the country’s attention on how important it is to motivate children to read.

The NEA asserts that reading opens the doors to achievement, and Read Across America Day celebrations, whether large or small, are crucial building blocks toward making the joys of reading an integral part of every child’s life.
