Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State women’s tennis team concluded the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational this morning with doubles’ matches. The Seminoles had a good first season showing at the invitational with players defeating several ranked opponents in both singles and doubles matches.
“All in all it was a successful weekend for the team,” said Head Coach Jennifer Hyde. “It allowed us an opportunity to gauge where we are right now on a number of levels. The girls competed well, and at some point in the weekend, everyone was forced to get over some hurdles.”
Beginning the final victories for the Seminoles this morning was doubles’ team sophomore Federica Suess (Ludwigshafen, Germany) and senior Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) winning against Shelly Godwin and Meritt Emery (Alabama), 8-4. Suess and Rynarzewska also teamed later to defeat DePaul’s Kirsten Gambrell and Katarina Milinkovic, 9-7. Sophomore’s Katie Rybakova (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Bonny Davidson (Johannesburg, South Africa) wrapped up the day by successfully battling DePaul’s Anna Redecsi and Cali Gustafson, 8-6.
“We are really looking forward to starting the dual-match season next weekend and will continue to work on getting better in the practice setting until our next competition,” Hyde said. “We are excited for what’s ahead.”
Florida State will be back in action next weekend, January 24th, as they open up the home-match season in Tallahassee, Fla., against Jacksonville at 1 p.m.
