Tampa, Fla. – The twenty-sixth ranked Florida State women’s tennis team concluded its two-match road trip with a sweep of No. 55 South Florida, 6-0. Due to weather conditions, the Seminoles were unable to play the doubles’ portion of the match and only competed in singles on the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla. Florida State now improves its overall record to 5-2.
“I am proud of the effort the girls gave this weekend,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “They did another great job of getting better and taking care of business. I was much more impressed with our performance today.”
The Garnet and Gold ruled the singles’ court as all six Seminoles won their matches. Representing Florida State on court one was No. 35 Katie Rybakova (Coral Springs, Fla.) conquering the Bulls’ lone ranked player, No. 121 Jessica Zok, 6-1, 6-4. Clinching the fourth point to give Florida State the victory was junior co-captain Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) defeating Iciri Rai, 6-3, 6-2, on court three.
“Not all of our girls are feeling 100% healthy right now, however, they did a tremendous job of putting it aside and doing their jobs,” Hyde said. “We definitely improved this weekend. After we catch our breath and have a day off tomorrow, we will hit the courts again in preparation for next weekend’s match against LSU on the road.”
The Seminoles will hit the road again next weekend to face the twenty-third ranked LSU Tigers on Sunday, February 22.
