Tallahassee, Fla. – On the eve of Thanksgiving, the Florida State volleyball team tamed the Wolfpack of NC State with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-21, 30-22) sweep on Lucy McDaniel Court. The Seminoles improve to 12-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (15-14 overall), while NC State remains winless in the conference at 0-21 (3-28 for the season).
The Seminoles dominated the court in game one, averaging a .515 hitting percentage with 20 kills on 33 attempts. Junior Mira Djuric contributed six kills on seven attempts to lead FSU with a .714 attacking percentage. Brianna Barry had a solid five kills on seven attempts (.571) and tied with fellow sophomore Lauren Young in solo and assisted blocks with one apiece. Florida State allowed the Wolfpack a mere eight kills the garnet and gold took the first round, 30-18.
In the second round, Florida State nearly doubled its kills adding 15 along with 20 points and three team blocks. Senior Makini Thompson came out in the lead with five kills in game two for a .409 percentage. But it was Barry’s .600 attacking percentage after two games that led the garnet and gold heading into the break.
NC State would take its only lead of the evening in game three, creeping out to a 3-2 advantaged over the Seminoles. That moment was short-lived as Florida State quickly recovered to go on a seven-point streak. Djuric’s six kills in game three doubled her total going into the final round; she would end the match on top with 12 kills and three errors on 18 attempts for a .500 percentage.
Also ending the night with double-digit kills was Thompson with 10 on 29 attempts and one error (.310). Barry and freshman Lauren Richardson each had nine, while sophomore Lauren Young posted seven overall.
The Seminoles will take Thursday off to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting their final ACC match of the season against North Carolina Friday, Nov. 23, at 1:00 p.m. A victory over the Tar Heels could mean a fourth-place finish in the conference for Florida State. The match will be streamed live on ACC Select and GameTracker.
