Florida State Tennis Sweeps Singles Championships At The ITA Summer College Circuit

Tallahassee, Fla. -On the final day (July 13) of the 2006 ITA Summer College Circuit, both tennis squads won the singles championship at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee.

Freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Odgen, Utah/Weber HS) beat fellow teammate and newcomer Jessica Wente (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse HS) in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to win the women’s singles title.

Senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Megga) overtook fifth seed Kyle Baker 6-3, 6-3 to win the men’s singles competition only a day after winning the doubles draw.

The Seminoles hosted the first stop of the 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer College Circuit. The ITA runs a circuit of events during the summer with eight different regions hosting a circuit of four events. Florida State hosted the first of four events in the Southern Region.
