Florida State Third In Preseason ACC Softball Poll

Jan. 22, 2008

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State kicks off the softball season ranked third in the 2008 ACC Softball Preseason Poll released by the conference office on Tuesday, January 22. The Seminoles share the No. 3 spot with Georgia Tech, each receiving 45 points.

“We’re ranked right where I expected we would be,” FSU head coach JoAnne Graf said. “Virginia Tech is not only the reigning conference champion but also returns its number one pitcher, so they would naturally be picked as the favorite. Overall, I think the rankings are pretty true to form this year.”

The Seminoles finished fourth in the ACC last season with a 13-7 record, bringing their all-time ACC wins total to 116. Florida State has won 10 conference titles since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1992, the last one coming in 2004.

The 2008 softball season begins Feb. 8 with the Early Bird Tournament hosted by FSU on JoAnne Graf Field. The conference championship wraps up ACC play on May 8-11 hosted by the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
