TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State University men’s golf team will play the University of Florida men’s golf team in a 36-hole dual match challenge at the Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, Ga., beginning at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, April 6. The exhibition match will match the top two ranked golf teams in the state of Florida on a neutral site as both teams continue preparations for their respective conference championships during the month of April.
“We are excited about competing against Florida in a friendly match between two teams who should both do very well in the postseason,” said Seminole Head Coach Trey Jones. “Playing with the Gators will give both teams a chance to work on aspects of their games that each player normally wouldn’t be able to in a competitive situation. This is going to be good for both teams because it will help in our preparation for the ACC Championship, the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championship.”
The match field shall be composed of six team members with the four lowest scores each round to count toward the match title. If two or more players tie for the medalist honors co-champions will be recognized. The first round will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the second at 1:00 p.m. Both teams will participate in practice rounds on Saturday: Florida will begin at 11:30 a.m. and Florida State at 2:00 p.m.
Florida State, which is one of 12 teams nationally that has won multiple events this year, is ranked No. 8 nationally in the latest collegiate men’s golf rankings by GolfWeek Magazine. The Gators are ranked No. 8 nationally by GolfStat. Florida State has earned four top five team finishes this spring including the team title at the Seminole Intercollegiate and second place finishes at the Gator and General Jim Hackler Invitationals.
