Tallahassee- The Florida State women’s tennis team will host the annual Seminole Invitational this weekend beginning Friday October 31st  at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The teams competing will be Florida State, South Florida, Florida International, Oregon, Air Force and Denver.

“This year’s event brings a number of very tough teams our way, including some teams that we rarely get to see during the dual match season in the spring,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “It looks like the weather will be perfect for us this weekend and we’re ready to get back out there again for some good battles.”

The Seminole Invitational will consist of singles and doubles draws of eight beginning Friday with one doubles match at 8:30 a.m. followed by two rounds of singles. Saturday will begin with two doubles matches back-to-back beginning at 8:30 a.m. The final day for the women, Sunday, will begin at 8:30 a.m. with one singles match.

“We are excited to be hosting our annual Seminole Invitational at home this weekend,” said Hyde. “This is the second of three back-to-back-to-back weekends of competition for us, and we are very much looking forward to improving on our successes from last weekend at the Regional Championships. We know that as the fall progresses our level will only improve as we continue to have opportunities to compete against solid competition.”

The Seminoles will look to defend their titles as four players came away with championship titles in last year’s single’s tournament. Sophomore Katie Rybakova (Coral Springs, FL) and junior Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, UT) are the only two returning Seminoles who won previous titles at the 2007 Seminole Invitational.

The Florida State men’s tennis team will also be hosting the Seminole Invitational, Saturday to Monday.

Results will be updated throughout the day on www.seminoles.com.
