Florida State will play host to Iowa State Tuesday March 23 at the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center in a second round game in the NIT. The time of the game, ticket prices and availability will be announced as soon as that information is available. The Seminoles’ game against the Cyclones will mark only the third time in school history the Seminoles will play a national tournament game in Tallahassee. Florida State has played two previous NIT games at the Civic Center.
Florida State’s game against the Cyclones marks the third time in school history the Seminoles will play an NIT game in Tallahassee. The Seminoles defeated Rhode Island, 107-72, in the first round of the 1987 NIT and defeated Michigan State, 68-63, in the second round of the 1997 NIT. The Seminoles played in the championship game of the event in 1997 after defeating Syracuse, Michigan State, West Virginia and Connecticut before falling to Michigan in the championship game.
Florida State is 1-0 all-time against Iowa State with the lone victory coming as a 109-86 victory Nov. 20, 1992. The Seminoles defeated the No. 19 ranked Cyclones in the second round of the Preseason NIT on their way to a second place finish in the tournament. The Seminoles advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament with a 25-10 record that season.
Florida State defeated Wichita State, 91-84 in double-overtime, while Iowa State defeated Georgia, 82-74, in first round NIT action Wednesday night. The Seminoles played at Wichita State while the Cyclones played at home in Ames.
