TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida State women’s tennis team will open the dual-match season Saturday, January 23, at home against in-state rival No. 75 USF at 10 a.m. FSU leads the all-time series record against the Bulls, 23-10, with the last meeting in 2009.
“We are fired up for our home opener against USF this Saturday,” FSU Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “With our annual tennis banquet on Friday night followed by our match on Saturday, the energy will be buzzing and we expect to have a great turnout for our match.”
Leading the way for the `Noles this weekend will be No. 23 Lauren McCreless (Ogden, Utah), No. 34 Noemie Scharle (Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg) , No. 62 Francesca Segarelli (Rome, Italy) and No. 115 Amy Sargeant (Walsall, England).
Although the Seminoles will bring in the most ranked players, the Bulls will be looking to No. 52 Ecaterina Vasenina and No. 77 Irene Rehberger in addition to the No. 8 ranked doubles threat of Melissa Koning and Rehberger.
“After a solid weekend of tennis last weekend, we are looking forward to getting back in to the dual match format this weekend.” Coach Hyde said. “This Saturday is the official start to our spring season, and we are very excited to play against a very good USF team.”
In last season’s matchup, the Seminoles swept the Bulls, 6-0, in Tampa, Fla., after weather conditions caused doubles to be rained out.
Fans are welcomed to come support the team at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center as admission is free. Live stats will also be available on www.seminoles.com throughout the match.
