TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State will travel to play at Mississippi State in the third round of the MasterCard NIT in a game to be played in Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Humphrey Coliseum on the MSU campus. The Seminoles advanced to the third round with victories over Toledo (77-61 on March 13) and Michigan (87-66 on March 15) while the Bulldogs defeated Mississippi Valley State (82-63, March 13) and Bradley (101-72 on March 17). The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to the semifinals of the NIT in a game to be played at Madison Square Garden on March 27.
The game between the Seminoles and the Bulldogs will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Florida State and Mississippi State have met seven times previously with the Seminoles holding a 4-3 advantage in the series. The last meeting (a 69-58 Seminole victory) came on Dec. 29, 1998 in a game played at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hi. The Seminoles have played at Mississippi State three times in Starkville and have a 1-2 record on the Bulldogs’ campus. The last time the Seminoles traveled to play at Mississippi State was for a 76-71 Florida State victory on Jan. 19, 1955.
Of the seven times the Seminoles and the Bulldogs have played in the sport of basketball, six came during the decade of the 1950’s and the seventh in 1998.
