TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Toney Douglas scored 13 points as Florida State beat Samford 61-45 on Sunday.
The Seminoles struggled offensively, only shooting 41 percent from the field. Their 61 points is a season low. Samford shot just 32 percent and only made 6-of-28 from the 3-point line.
Florida State (8-2) stretched its lead to 13 early in the second half, but Samford pulled to within seven with under 10 minutes to play. Both teams scored on their next two possessions, then the Seminoles broke the game open with 14-0 run.
Douglas had five points during the run, including a 3-pointer from the corner that gave the Seminoles a 14-point lead. Uche Echefu added 11 points and six rebounds.
The Seminoles had 10 turnovers in the first half, and only led 27-21 at halftime.
Samford (2-4) was led by Trey Montgomery’s 16 points. The Bulldogs’ leading scorer, Joe Ross Merritt came in the game averaging 16.8 points per game, but he shot only 4-for-13 from the field and finished with nine points.
