Tallahassee, Fla. – Just two meets away from the ACC Indoor Championships, Florida State’s track and field squad heads to the Big Apple this weekend for the annual New Balance Invitational at the Armory Track. Events will get under way in New York City first thing Friday morning, Feb. 8 and continue through Saturday evening Feb. 9.
Many of the nation’s leading indoor track and field teams will make the trip to New York this weekend including Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, BYU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
Among the Seminoles traveling in the New Balance meet are returning All-Americans Kandia Batchelor, Keyla Smith, Michael Ray Garvin and Ray Taylor. Batchelor, Smith and Garvin will lead the way for FSU in the sprint events, aided by junior Hshkeni Richemond and senior Hubert Mitchell, as well as newcomers Brittany St. Louis and Brandon Byram, who currently holds the fastest 200m time in the ACC with a 21.49.
Taylor will lead Florida State in the field events along with freshmen Ngoni Makusha, and Kim Williams. In just their first few weeks of competition, Makusha has already set a provisional mark in the long jump while Williams automatically qualified in her third triple jump of the season for a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Following the competition in New York, Florida State will begin preparations to travel to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It will be the team’s last major competition before the men’s team goes for their sixth-consecutive indoor ACC championship.
