TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 28 Florida State men’s tennis team (15-4, 6-0) travel to Maryland (4-11, 1-4) this weekend for a 2:30 p.m. bout on Friday, March 29. The two teams will meet at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts. Florida State holds a 22-2 advantage over the Terps in the series history.
“We’ve never gotten to 7-0 in the ACC,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We understand every match is difficult in the ACC. Everyone has value to it so you can’t take anyone lightly. Maryland is a team that has really gone through a hard time this year. They’re going to be dropping the program next year. Their coach has done a great job up there. They’re talented. They have ranked guys on their team in doubles. They have all their guys back from a very talented team last year.”
The Seminoles are undefeated this season in the ACC with a 6-0 record. Every member of the team has a winning record in singles and doubles this spring and no one has a losing record in ACC singles play.
Junior Andres Bucaro leads the team with a 15-1 record with sophomore Blake Davis right behind him with a 13-6 record. With 10 wins a piece is senior Jason Zafiros, junior Jordan Kelly-Houston and freshman Cristian Gonzalez Mendez. Junior Anderson Reed is right behind them with a 9-2 record while freshman Benjamin Lock is 8-2. Freshman Dominic Cotrone wraps up the team with a 4-1 record.
The Seminoles have been strong in doubles this year. Bucaro and Lock and joined together for a 15-3 record including a 5-1 ACC record this spring. Cotrone and Reed are 12-6 while Kelly-Houston and Davis are 9-7.
