(TALLAHASSEE, FL) — The Florida State Men’s Tennis Program will host the kick-off tournament of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Summer Circuit, Friday July 6th through Monday July 9th. All matches will be played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The tournament is presented by the USTA. Admission is free to all spectators.

Some of the toughest players from around the country will travel to Tallahassee to battle for the tournament title. Several players from Florida State are scheduled to compete in the tournament. Rodrigo Laub, a junior on the men’s tennis team, finished out the 2001 season as one of only five to finish with a winning record (14-10). Joining Laub will be teammate Bartosz Koldej. Koldej, who was a transfer from Georgia Perimeter last season, made an immediate impact in doubles play for the Seminoles going 15-8 for the 2001 season. Brittany Veal, a recent walk-on from Atlanta, Ga. will be the lone Lady Seminole playing in the tournament.

There are over twelve colleges being represented at the tournament, which include University of Florida, Mississippi State University, University of Georgia, University of Connecticut, and the University of Kentucky. Tallahassee is one of the first stops in the 4 week Southeast circuit.

This is the second major tournament to hit Tallahassee this summer. Last month the USTA held the Tallahassee Challenger at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Spectators had a chance to watch top pro players match against each other for a share of the $50,000 pot. Ramon Delgado defeated Justin Gimbelstob in the final match.
