Tallahassee, Fla – Florida State (2-1) completed the Florida State Invitational with a 3-1 (30-22, 30-25, 21-30, 30-21) victory over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday night. The Seminoles were led by Aisha Carr’s 10 kills and Jennifer Anderson’s 22 assists, while Jessica Skower recorded 13 assists in the win. Florida State’s Amanda Santos and Carr were named to the All-Tournament team.
In a tough battle with the Wolverines, the Seminoles broke a 14-14 tie to take game one 30-22. FSU went on a late 10-6 run to put the game out of reach. Game two was close the whole way and as they did in game one, Florida State broke a 19-19 tie with an 11-6 run to win the second game 30-25. The win gave the Seminoles a quick 2-0 led in the match
FSU trailed 6-2 early in game three, but the Seminole offense came around and played as it had all match long to tie the game at nine apiece. Freshman Nikki Anthony’s kill mid way through the game sparked the offense to a 5-0 run. With the game tied once again at 19-19, the Wolverines moved out to a 25-17 lead and took game three 30-21.
In game four, the Seminoles rushed out to an early 6-1 lead and increased their lead to 15-8 on their way to a 30-21 game four win and the match victory.
Carr led the Seminole offense with 10 kills and eight digs, while Freshman Cassie McLaughlin also had eight digs defensively. Anderson controlled the offense once again for FSU with 22 assists.
Florida State will travel to San Marcos, Texas next weekend, September 5-6, for the Texas State Tournament. The Seminoles will take on Louisiana Tech (1:00 p.m.) and Arkansas State (6:30 p.m.) on Friday, September 5. On Saturday, September 6, the Seminoles will take on Pepperdine at 11:00 a.m. in their final match of the tournament.
