TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State defeated the Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette by a score of 3-2 (30-27, 20-30, 21-30, 30-26, 15-13) in the Seminoles’ first match of the FSU Invitational. After winning game one, the Seminoles fell in games two and three and were forced to come from behind to defeat the Ragin Cajuns. With the win, Florida State improves to 6-3, while the Ragin Cajuns fall to 5-6 on the season.
Leading the way for the Seminoles was senior outside hitter Alex Sevillano as she notched 17 kills on 33 attacks and four errors to hit .394 on the afternoon. Sevillano also recorded two service aces and eight digs in the Florida State effort. Middle hitter Dawn Hough performed well for the Seminoles as she turned in 10 kills, one service ace, one solo block and three block assists. Kristin Frye tallied 13 kills, three service aces and eight digs in the Florida State victory. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson led the Seminoles in assists with 53. She also had eight digs and one solo block.
The Ragin Cajuns were led by Freshman Lesley Tough as she recorded 11 kills, five service aces, seven digs and hit .250. Priscilla Lima recorded a double-double as she tallied 14 kills and 15 digs for Louisiana-Lafayette. Lima was also responsible for one service ace, two solo blocks and two block assists. Leading the way in assists was junior Beth Henson as she notched 47 in the match.
Florida State will return to action Friday, September 20th, at 7:00 p.m., when they face the Tigers of LSU. The Tigers enter the match with a record of 6-2 on the season and are coming off a 3-0 victory against Brown. Florida State leads the all-time series with a record of 10-8.
