Florida State battled the Blue Devils Saturday night, as Duke beat the Seminoles by a score of 3-0 (30-23, 30-20, 30-28). The Tribe fought from behind numerous times, but could not hold on to win a game. With the loss, the Seminoles fall to 13-7 overall, 4-3 in the ACC.
The Seminoles were led by senior opposite Kristin Frye. Frye recorded a double double for Florida State, as she had 14 kills,14 digs and hit .313. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson also had a double double, recording 40 assists and 11 digs for the Seminoles. Alex Sevillano looked strong, as she had 11 kills, seven digs and hit .231 against Duke.
In game one, Florida State jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the Blue Devils fought back, scoring three consecutive points, and tied the score at 5-5. Duke continued to battle the Seminoles as the score was tied numerous times through the first game. At the midway point, the Blue Devils led the Seminoles 15-13. Duke led by as many as eight points, with the score 25-17 late in the game. The Tribe was able to cut into the Blue Devil lead, but could not come up with the victory, as Duke won 30-23.
The Seminoles and Blue Devils changed possession of the lead numerous times early in game two of the match. The Tribe led by a score of 15-12 halfway into the game. Duke went on a 6-0 run shortly after the midway point and led the Seminoles, 23-18 late. The Blue Devils only allowed Florida State to score two more times, as they defeated the Seminoles 30-20.
Florida State and Duke battled early in game three, but the Blue Devils were too much as they led 15-10 at the midway point of the match. Duke continued to dominate, as the Blue Devils led 21-13. The Seminoles were able to cut the Duke lead to 23-22 late in the game, but could not hold on as the Blue Devils were victorious 30-28.
The Seminoles will return to action tomorrow, October 20th, when Florida State will take on Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. in Winston Salem, N.C.
