TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 2004 Florida State volleyball team has been working hard in the off-season in preparation for a tough 2004 schedule. On Saturday, August 28th, the Seminoles will hold an intra-squad scrimmage, which will allow the team to work in a game-type setting and allow the coaches to look at several possible lineups. The 15-member squad will split into two teams and begin play at 7:00 p.m. at Tully Gymnasium. The scrimmage is open to the public.
“We’ve had good practices and the girls have worked hard and really come together,” said head coach Todd Kress. “I have seen how our players work in practice, but this will give me the opportunity to evaluate their competitiveness in a game-type situation. This is the first year since I have been here that we’ve had depth. A couple of the junior college transfers have come in to help us plus a couple more freshmen to join the freshmen from last year. This year we really have a good mix.”
Since returning to practice the players have been working hard and have high expectations for the 2004 season. The transition has been challenging for the Seminole newcomers, but the returnees have helped in adjusting to the collegiate level of play. With the addition of a strong recruiting class and the return of key upperclassmen, the Seminole volleyball team has their eye set on an ACC championship this season.
FSU will kick off the 2004 regular season at home in the FSU Invitational on Friday, September 3rd. The Seminoles will take on Sam Houston State in their first match of the day at 12:30 p.m. and will face Stetson at 7:30 p.m. in their second match of the day that same evening. On Saturday, September 4th, Florida State will take on South Alabama at 6:00 p.m.
