TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In their second match at the Florida State Invitational, the Seminoles came back from a one set deficit to defeat Bowling Green 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-22) on Saturday, August 30. FSU is now 2-0 this weekend as it prepares to take on Stetson tonight at 7:00 p.m. on Lucy McDaniel Court at Tully Gymnasium.
The Garnet and Gold got out to a rocky start in the first set, dropping 18-25 with seven attacking and three serving errors. Sophomores Lauren Richardson and Stephanie Neville put down three kills apiece to top the team.
Showing no signs of defeat the Seminoles powered back in the second set, taking control of the lead at point nine and holding on to win 25-23. FSU once again dominated the third set, going on a seven point streak to get things started. The Falcons never made it past point 13 as the Seminoles went up 2-1 heading into the fourth set.
In what would be the final set of the afternoon, Bowling Green started it off much like Florida State had in the previous set; scoring seven straight points before junior Brianna Barry put down the first kill for FSU. The Noles took control of the set at point 17 and would battle back and forth with BGSU for the final eight points. FSU went on to win the match 25-22 and heads into its final match against Stetson tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Leading the way for the Seminoles after four was Barry with 15 kills, five blocks and a team-high .478 attacking percentage. Richardson and Neville were both in a close second with 13 kills each and junior Jordana Price rounded out the double-digit kills with 10.
