Florida State entered Wednesday night’s match against Florida A&M with a nine match home winning streak on the line. The streak would not come to an end on this evening, as the Seminoles defeated the Rattlerettes by a score of 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-22). With the victory, the Tribe takes a 19-0 advantage in the series against Florida A&M and improves to 13-6 on the season, while the Rattlerettes fall to 10-4.
Sophomore sensation Aisha Carr led the Seminoles to victory against the Rattlerettes, as she posted eight kills, three service aces, four block assists and hit .467. Senior opposite Kristin Frye experienced another exceptional evening for the Seminoles, as she notched 14 kills, nine digs and hit .393. Seniors Alex Sevillano and Dawn Hough contributed to the Seminole effort, as they each recorded nine kills against Florida A&M. Hough added three service aces, two solo blocks, five block assists and hit .389. Setter Jennifer Anderson led the Seminoles is assists as she had 39 on the evening.
Leading the way for the Rattlerettes was freshman middle hitter Giulianna Velorio. Velorio had nine kills, four digs, four block assists and hit .467 for Florida A&M. Sophomore Ivelina Petkova recorded a team-high 12 kills and also had two service aces, four digs, one solo block and two block assists. Delisha Peterson led the Rattlerettes in assists with 34.
The Seminoles will return to action Saturday, October 19th, when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on the Blue Devils of Duke University. The match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Florida State will then take on the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest Sunday, October 20th, in Winston Salem, N.C. That match is also scheduled to be played at 5:00 p.m. at Reynolds Gym.
