TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State defeated Maryland Saturday, October 12th, at Tully Gymnasium by a score of 3-2. The Terrapins were able to take games one and four, but could not hold on as the Seminoles, led by their four outstanding seniors, pulled out the victory. With the win, the Tribe remains undefeated at home and improves to 12-6 overall, 4-2 in the ACC. Maryland falls to 13-8, 2-4 in the ACC.
The Florida State seniors led the team to victory, as they each tallied double digit kills against the Terps. Outside hitter Alex Sevillano led the way for the Seminoles as she recorded her seventh double-double of the season. Sevillano had 15 kills, 15 digs, one service ace and hit .316 for the Tribe. Erica Bunch led the team in kills with 19. Senior opposite Kristin Frye notched 17 kills, five digs and hit a team-high .333 to lead the Seminoles past Maryland. Dawn Hough had another strong performance, as she had 14 kills, seven block assists and hit .265 on the evening. Jennifer Anderson led the team in assists with 64.
The Terrapins were led by junior outside hitter Lynnsy Jones, as she notched 33 kills, eight digs and one service ace for Maryland. Carey Brennan, Amanda Ayres and Jennifer Dewalt, each recorded double digit kills against the Seminoles. Lindsay Davey recorded a double-double for the Terrapins, as she had 66 assists and 11 digs.
Florida State will return to action Wednesday, October 16th, when the Seminoles host the Rattlerettes of Florida A&M. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Tully Gymnasium.
