TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday, April 13th, to compete in a seven-team spring tournament. In the tournament, the Lady Seminoles faced three of seven teams, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Alabama and Georgia State. Each match in this tournament consisted of three games played to 30 points. Florida State took two of the three matches.
The first opponent for the Lady Seminoles was UAB. In the first and second games of the match, Florida State defeated the Blazers by scores of 30-22 and 30-23. Although the Lady Seminoles played tough in the third game, the Blazers were able to earn a 30-28 victory. Juniors Alex Sevillano and Erica Bunch led Florida State in the victory.
After a short break, the Lady Seminoles took to the court again to face the host team, Alabama. Florida State got off to a strong start in the first game and didn’t look back as they defeated the Crimson Tide in all three games, 30-26, 30-24, 30-27. Strong leadership from juniors Kristin Frye, Dawn Hough and Sevillano was key in the victory.
The Lady Seminoles struggled against Georgia State in the third match of the day. Florida State defeated the Panthers in the first game of the match by a score of 30-23. After earning the win in the first game, things seemed to fall apart for the Lady Seminoles, as they lost the last two games to Georgia State, 23-30 and 24-30.
The regular season for Florida State is scheduled to begin on August 30th, when the Lady Seminoles will travel to Normal, Ill., to compete the Illinois State Tournament.
