TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Seminole volleyball team will make four appearances on the Sunshine Network during the 2002 season. Three of the four televised matches, including Oregon, Duke and North Carolina, will be played in the friendly confines of Tully Gymnasium. Florida State will also be seen on the Sunshine Network, when the Seminoles take on the Florida Gators on September 24th.
Florida State will face two non-conference opponents in back-to-back televised matches in 2002. The Seminoles will take on the University of Oregon in the first televised match of the season on September 10th. The Ducks finished the 2001 season with a record of 9-21 and ranked last in the Pac-10, but will present a challenge this season as they return four starters. The second match to be televised will be a battle of in-state rivals, as the Seminoles travel to Gainesville to face the Gators. Last season, Florida finished first in the SEC and advanced to the regional final of the NCAA tournament before falling to Nebraska.
“I think we have a great non-conference schedule,” said head coach Todd Kress. “It will present us with some challenges, but I think that is something that will help us leading into ACC play.”
Meetings with Duke and North Carolina, pre-season favorites in the ACC, highlight the 2002 television schedule. The Sunshine Network will broadcast the Seminoles’ match against Duke on September 28th, when the Blue Devils return to Tallahassee for the first time since they were defeated by Florida State in the conference tournament. Duke advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament to finish its 2001 campaign. The Seminoles will face ACC pre-season favorite, North Carolina in a televised match on October 27th. The Garnet and Gold will be anxiously anticipating the Tar Heels’ return to Tallahassee after falling to UNC in the ACC Championship match in 2001.
