TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State senior Aisha Thornton
recorded 14 kills, seven blocks and a .375 hitting performance as she
led the Lady Seminoles to a 15-12, 16-14, 13-15, 15-0 victory over NC
State at Tully Gym this afternoon. The win marks FSU’s first Atlantic
Coast Conference victory of the season as the Tribe improves to 7-13
overall and 1-7 in the league. The Wolfpack fall to 11-13 and 2-6 in
The Lady Seminoles came back from a 2-8 deficit to take game one
15-12. The FSU blocking was a key to the win as Thornton recorded three
solo stops in the first set. Junior Jennifer Werrick paced FSU with
Florida State jumped to a 6-2 lead in the second game and led
for much of the contest. The Wolfpack tied the game at 11 and went on
to take a 14-12 advantage, but the Lady Seminoles would not back down
and came back for the 16-14 win.
Game three saw NC State jump ahead 5-0. Florida State battled
back to tie the game at 6-6. It would be the first of four ties in the
contest. The game was locked at 13-13 and the Wolfpack closed out the
scoring to take the 15-13 win.
The Lady Seminoles wasted no time in game four. FSU’s Kensy
Zulueta served for the first two points and following a sideout, it was
Elizabeth Pound who served the ball for 13 straight points.
“NC State has beaten both Duke and Georgia Tech, so they were a
force to be reckoned with,” FSU Head Coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud said.

double-digit kills as Werrick had 14, Norisha Campbell had 12 kills and
Erica Bunch had 10. Werrick added 16 digs for a double-double. For NC
State, Charece Williams had 12 kills and 10 digs.
Florida State will play at Jacksonville on Tuesday, October 19th
at 7 p.m.
