TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State volleyball team will travel to North Carolina this weekend to take on NC State and North Carolina in the final weekend of the ACC regular season. Earlier in the season, the Seminoles defeated the Wolfpack and 12th-ranked Tar Heels at home. With two wins on the road this weekend the Seminoles could reach 20 wins on the season, as they currently have a record of 18-10, 9-5 in the conference.
The Seminoles are led by their seniors, Erica Bunch, Kristin Frye, Dawn Hough and Alex Sevillano. Frye has been a team leader for Florida State this season. Frye leads the teams in kills (398), hitting percentage (.307) and digs (222). The Tribe will look to outside hitter Sevillano to step up against NC State and North Carolina. Sevillano has been a constant for the Seminoles all season, as she has recorded 351 kills, 219 digs, 55 service aces and a hitting percentage of .265. Bunch will bring power to the lineup as she has done all year. With only two matches remaining on the schedule, Bunch has compiled 358 kills, 53 total blocks and a hitting percentage of .264. Middle hitter Hough has proven herself to be tough competition at the net this year, as she has notched 244 kills, 24 service aces, 106 total blocks and a .298 hitting percentage. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson will have to have a productive weekend in order to defeat the Wolfpack and Tar Heels. This season, Anderson has recorded 1,431 assists, 22 service aces and 204 digs.
The NC State Wolfpack is led by Sarah Ensminger. Ensminger has recorded 193 kills, 27 service aces, 211 digs and a team-high 87 total blocks. Lindi Sheppard has 967 assists, 15 service aces, 162 digs and 41 total blocks. Another threat for the Wolfpack is Maya Mapp. Mapp has tallied 316 kills, 75 total blocks and a team-high hitting percentage of .294. NC State enters the match with a record of 3-29 overall and 0-14 in the conference.
Earlier this season at Tully Gymnasium, the Seminoles upset the 12th-ranked Tar Heels, handing them their first conference loss of the season. North Carolina will be looking for revenge as Florida State visits Chapel Hill this weekend. The Tar Heels will look to Laura Greene to lead them past the Seminoles. Greene has been effective all season, recording 403 kills, 34 service aces, 363 digs, and hitting .214. Molly Pyles will contribute to the North Carolina effort. This season, Pyles has notched 329 kills, 26 service aces, 270 digs and hit .248 for the Tar Heels. Holly Strauss has 201 kills, 19 service aces, 97 total blocks and is hitting .294 on the season. Eve Rackham, the setter for the Tar Heels, has 1,214 assists, 21 service aces, 239 digs and a hitting percentage of .233.
This is the final weekend of the regular season in the ACC, but the Seminoles will return to action November 21-24, when Florida State will compete at the ACC Tournament in Atlanta.
