JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida State volleyball team won its
second match in three days with a three-set victory over Jacksonville at
Swisher Gymnasium this evening. The 15-12, 15-2, 15-9 win puts Florida
State at 8-13 overall while Jacksonville’s record now stands at 10-9
The height of the Lady Seminoles proved to be a factor as
Florida State recorded eight team blocks and outhit the Dolphins .259 to
.122. Senior Aisha Thornton led the Florida State attack with 16 kills
on her way to a .345 hitting performance. Junior Jennifer Werrick and
freshman Erica Bunch each had double-doubles with 11 kills and 10 digs
and 10 kills and 10 digs, respectively. Sophomore Norisha Campbell had
a solid night with nine kills and a team-leading .467 performance.
Freshman setter Jamie Hibbard added 35 assists and a team-high 12 digs
while also recording three digs of her own.
“This was a nice win to get right now,” FSU Head Coach Dr.
Cecile Reynaud said. “Playing on the road is always challenging and I
thought the kids responded well after very little rest from the weekend.
Hopefully this will give us the boost we need as we head to Virginia and
Maryland this weekend.:
Florida State will head to Virginia for a 7 p.m. match on
Friday, October 22nd and will then visit Maryland on Saturday at 5 p.m.
