April 21, 2002

CLEMMONS, N.C. –
The Florida State University women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the 14th annual Atlantic Coast Conference championship tournament at the Salem Glen Country Club. Seminole junior Kristin Tamulis finished in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings marking the second consecutive season she has finished in the top four in the ACC championship. She finished in third place in last year’s event.

The Seminoles finished fourth in the team standings as they finished with a 911 team score. Their 911 score was their third best tournament score of the spring season. Florida State has finished in the top four in each of their last three tournaments.

Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) finished in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings with Kristina Engstrom of Duke. Tamulis and Engstrom carded identical scores of four-over par 220. The finish marked Tamulis’ fourth consecutive top-10 finish and seventh of her career.

Senior Alison Zimmer (Tallahassee, Fla.) finished in 11th place with a score of 226. The finish was her third consecutive top-15 individual finish and the 226 score was the second best of her career. Zimmer shot a career-best 225 at the Ryder/Florida Championships in early April.

Sophomore Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) finished in 18th place to give Florida State a trio of top-20 finishers. Sordel came within one stroke of her career best round with a 72 in Friday’s first round.

Sophomore Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) finished in a tie for 23rd-place and sophomore Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) finished in a tie for 28th-place.

Florida State will now await word on its possible selection to the NCAA Regional championships May 9-11. If selected, it would mark the second consecutive season the Seminoles have advanced to post-season play.
