Florida State Women’s Golf Team In Eighth Place At ACC/SEC Shootout

DESTIN, Fla. –
The University of Florida women’s golf team, led by freshmen Andrea Vander Lende and Whitney Code, is in first place in the team standings after the first round of the second annual Dodge ACC/SEC Shoot at the Raven Course at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Vander Lende is tied for second in the individual standings and Code is fourth. Alabama, who also has two players in the top five of the individual standings is second in the team standings, four strokes behind Florida.


Vander Lende shot an even par 71 in Friday’s first round and is three stroke behind the current individual leader, Darby Sligh of Alabama. Sligh tied the tournament record for lowest score in a single round with a three under par 68. Code shot a one-over par 72 and is four strokes off the pace set by Sligh. Sligh tied the tournament record of Mississippi State’s Anna Gertsson who shot a 68 in the second round of the inaugural tournament last season. Gertsson shot a 73 in today’s first round and is tied for fifth in the individual standings.


Florida, which shot a team score of six over par 294, has four individual players in the top 15 of the individual standings. In addition to Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) and Code (Tampa, Fla.), Gator junior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla.) is tied for 12th and sophomore Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) is tied for 14th.


Florida State is tied for eighth in the team standings. Junior All-America candidate Kristin Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) is tied for 27th after the first round of play. She shot an eight over par 79 to lead the Seminoles. Sophomore Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) is in a tied for 32nd place with a nine-over par score of 80.


The five Southeastern Conference schools currently hold a lead in the conference standings over the five Atlantic Coast Conference schools. Led by Florida, the SEC has four schools in the top six while North Carolina and Wake Forest are the only two ACC schools in the top six. Furman, the wildcard team in the tournament, is tied for seventh.
