Florida State Women’s Tennis Defeats Georgia Southern 7-0

Florida State women’s tennis are off to a good start of the 2001 season as they defeated the visiting Lady Eagles of Georgia Southern by a final score of 7-0.


Seniors Marina Raic and Natalie Carratala’ lead the way for the Seminoles by defeating Jennifer Runnion and Virginia Baldwin at No.3 doubles with a score of 8-0. Nanette Duxin and Alida Gallovits clinched the doubles point for the Noles by winning comfortably at No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-1. Jessica Balbuena and Christina Denny also recorded a win in doubles for the Noles.


Freshman Denny showed no signs of nervousness as she collected her first win in dual match competition for Florida State. Denny won her match at No. 3 singles without losing a game. After winning the first set, FSU’s Gallovits rallied from behind in the second set to defeat Isabella Kling 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Raic played impressively for the Seminoles at the No. 5 position, losing only one game. Balbuena, Travis, and Duxin also recorded wins for Florida State.


The Lady Nole’s next match was scheduled for tomorrow at noon vs. Bethune-Cookman, however Bethune-Cookman has forfeited and the Lady Noles will next face Alabama Sunday, February 4th at home at 11:00 a.m.
