TALLAHASSEE, FL.–The Florida State women’s tennis team ended a two-match losing streak today by defeating the No. 37 ranked University of South Florida in Tampa 4-3. With the win the 33-ranked Seminoles improve to 4-5 on the season.
In doubles play Jessica Balbuena teamed with Samantha Schoeffel at the No. 2 spot to take the 8-3 win over USF’s Genevieve Houle and Natalie Schwartz. Marina Raic and Christina Denny clinched the doubles point for the Seminoles with an 8-4 win over Aschlee Callahan and Ildiko Zubor at the No. 3 position.
Florida State then moved on to a 3-0 lead as No. 2 Christina Denny and No. 5 Samantha Schoeffel won their singles matches in straight sets. USF’s Tina Harrison got the Bulls on the board with the upset victory over FSU’s Alida Gallovits at the No. 1 singles position, but just a few minutes later Nanette Duxin clinched the match for the `Noles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Genevieve Houle at No. 2.
The next match for the women’s tennis team will be at home against Michigan State on Tuesday March 6th at 2:30 p.m.
