Florida State Women’s Tennis Defeats Tulane

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-– The Florida State Lady Seminoles clinched
another win at home on Thursday afternoon, improving their record at the
Scott Speicher Tennis Center to 8-1. The Lady Seminoles dual match record
improves to 10-3, as the team shows it’s resilience after a close loss to
Baylor on Wednesday snapped the Noles seven-match winning streak. Tulane’s
record drops to 7-4.

FSU got off to a quick start in the singles portion of the match,
with Kia Asberg (No. 3 singles), Nanette Duxin (No. 2 singles), and Ali
Weber (No. 5 singles) all contributing early wins to bring the Lady
Seminoles to a 3-0 lead. Asberg extended her singles winning streak to 10,
while Weber won her fourth singles match in a row. Fifty-sixth ranked
Alida Gallovits then defeated Tulane’s Anna Monhartova 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No.
1 singles, bringing FSU to a 4-0 lead. Tulane soon retaliated, as Florida
State’s Marina Raic (No. 6 singles) and Jessica Balbuena (No. 4 singles)
dropped two close matches to the Green Wave, bringing the final score of
the singles portion of the match to 4-2.

In doubles action, FSU’s Balbuena and Weber defeated Tulane’s Cook
and Axsater 8-1 at No. 3 doubles, bringing the Lady Seminoles lead to 5-2
and securing the match for FSU. The win brought Weber and Balbuena’s
doubles win streak to six and dual match record to 11-7. FSU finished the
match with wins by Duxin and Gallovits (No. 1 doubles) and Asberg and Raic
(No. 2 doubles) bringing the final score to 7-2 in favor of the Seminoles.

Florida State will return to the courts at the Scott Speicher
Tennis Center on Thursday, March 16th to face 28th ranked North Carolina at
2:00 p.m.
