Florida State Women’s Tennis Falls To #1 Duke, 6-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State women’s tennis team traveled to Durham, N.C. Sunday, March 30th, to take on the #1 ranked Duke Blue Devils. The Seminoles fell to the Blue Devils by a score of 6-1. With this loss, the Seminoles fall to 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.


The Tribe fell in all three matches in the doubles portion of the match, which gave Duke the first point of the afternoon. In No. 1 doubles, Duke’s Amanda Johnson and Julie DeRoo defeated Amber Tantee and Daniela Gheorghe, 8-6. At the No. 2 position, Kelly McCain and Hillary Adams defeated Florida State’s Brooke Cordell and Christina Denny, 8-4. Beth Lawrence and Natalie Tirapelli then fell to the Blue Devils’ Julia Smith and Katie Granson at the No. 3 position, 8-4.


The Seminoles were once again led by Tantee in singles action when she defeated Smith at the No. 3 position, 6-1, 6-4. Denny, playing at the No. 1 position, was defeated by Johnson of Duke, 6-3, 6-0. In No. 2 singles, Gheorghe was defeated by Saras Arasu, 6-2, 6-2. Cordell of Florida State lost her match at the No. 4 position to DeRoo by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Concluding the day, Tirapelli was defeated by Granson 6-0, 6-0.


The Seminoles will return to action Saturday, April 5th, when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to take on the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
